Press release from Louise Benoit

Canada’s biggest consumer fair for families!

The Montréal edition of the Parents and Kids Fair turns 25: What a milestone for Louise Benoit!

Montréal, November 23, 2016 – The Montréal edition of the Parents and Kids Fair will be turning 25 in April – and what a milestone it is going to be! Born out of an idea that presented itself at a sunny Outremont outdoor café, the Parents and Kids Fair is still pursuing its mission of supporting families with the same spark and fire of 25 years ago. It took two years for the Fair’s founder, Louise Benoit, to develop the concept, give it a brand and assemble the team, sponsors and exhibitors that would make up the Fair’s inaugural edition. The date was April 22, 1993. Number of exhibitors: ...70! Times have changed, and since that opening day, the Fair has hosted over one million visitors at Place Bonaventure, the number of exhibitors has been running in the hundreds each year, and thanks to its founder’s unwavering standards and professionalism, the event has consistently scored a 94% visitor satisfaction rate – it even received the Pope’s blessing!

Louise Benoit

Who knows if Louise Benoit would have created a Fair for young families, were it not for the resources she felt were lacking during her own pregnancy in 1971, when all she had were a steel carriage and a flowery dress with which to welcome baby daughter Marie-Soleil into the world? The success of this self-made woman stems from qualities she inherited from her father, such as leadership, perseverance, people skills, drive and commitment, and the fact that she’s had the same team for 25 years. The Fair also owes its success to the loyalty of its sponsors and exhibitors, one of the event’s biggest strengths, and the event’s concept per se, which Châtelaine magazine recognized in 1993 when they named Louise Benoit one of their women of the year.

From secretary to CEO

From modelling and working as René Homier-Roy’s secretary at the now defunct magazine, Nous, to founding an event staffing agency, Louise Benoit has been a fighter throughout her career. Nevertheless, who knew that at age 40, she would create what would become Canada’s biggest consumer fair for families? Twenty-five years later, this accomplished woman, now also a grandmother, can look back with pride at the impact she’s had on the early childhood community and an entire generation of young families – an inspiration for all of Québec! “In both Montréal and Québec City, the Parents and Kids Fair has become an essential component of young families’ lives. We are delighted to have been a part of this annual tradition from the beginning,” declared François J. Coutu, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc., official presenter of both Fairs.

A friendly, informative and fun Fair – Parenting: Love and Learn!

Birth, health, education, recreation and leisure, consumer products – it’s a never-ending array of activities! Simply everything for families, and admission is always free for children 12 and under. The Fairs’ godmother, Marie-Élaine Thibert, invites future moms and parents and their kids ages 0 to 6 to come enjoy the 25th Parents and Kids Fair in Montréal and the 4th Parents and Kids Fair in Québec City, and see why Parenting is a Love and Learn experience!
